As 2015 is coming, it is now the ideal moment to think about what we want to improve as professionals and the objectives that we want to fulfil for the next year. As translators and interpreters, we may share some of these resolutions and maybe we can be inspired by other translators’ ones; that is why I have decided to gather my 10 New Year’s resolutions.

1.Devote more time on this blog and provide the best content.

This year, Circa Lingua‘s blog was born both in Spanish and English. It was a project that I have been developing for a long time and thanks to all of you it has been a success so far. That is why I want to devote more time on it and offer the best content to you. Do not hesitate to contact me at blog@circalingua.com if you have any doubt or if you want me to talk about any specific topic.

I have already listed some of the topics that I want to cover this year. Among many other, I have planned to talk about rates and pricing (such a controversial topic, right?) and how to diversify our incomes. But I am also waiting for your proposals!

2. Specialise, specialise and specialise.

I have also listed some courses and webinars that I want to take to maintain my specialisations and to develop my knowledge within my fields of expertise. I always say that one never knows too much and there is always something new that you can learn.

3. Add new services to my portfolio and diversify my incomes.

In 2015, I want to take benefits from all my skills. Of course, translation and interpreting will always be Circa Lingua’s main pillar, but I want to start offering new services to my clients. But you will have to keep this secret with me!

4. Respect my working hours.

Find the perfect balance between my professional and personal life. I promise myself that my working days will end at 19h. I will only work after 19h if it is about an special occasion and this will be reflected in my rates.

5. Keep fighting for decent rates.

Keep fighting for our profession. We still keep finding clients that do not know how to value what we do, and it is never “too expensive” when the benefits of our services are justified by means of our work.

6. Devote more time on my personal life.

I want to catch up with some of my hobbies that I have been neglecting for a while.

7. Keep my accounts updated.

Stop stressing at the end of the semester. I promise myself to keep my paperwork and accounts updated to avoid further problems at the end of the month. That is why I talked about how to integrate a financial plan within our businesses.

8. Networking.

I have also listed a series of event that I want to attend in 2015. This year I had the chance to join a great group of translators in Edinburgh and get to know some new colleagues, and it is with no doubt worth it!

9. Rethink new marketing strategies.

I want to be more creative in this sense and implement new marketing strategies to promote my blog and my business. I will keep you updated about this one!

10. Keep learning and improving as a professional.

I always say that as translators and interpreters, we always end up knowing something new at the end of the day. So I want to keep learning from every assignment and from every past (and future) mistakes to offer the best services to my clients.
