How your business can make the most of the summer
I still remember how I spent my summers when I was little. Some years, I ended up going to a summer camp for a month, or going to the beach with the family. If I was lucky, I ended up going abroad to practice English or French in a different country.
For me, summers were the ideal moment to do something different, to innovate and be creative in order to make the most of the circumstances. Obviously, I always tried to avoid the cons of the summer: the Spanish heat, high prices of hotels, huge waves of tourists… And that’s why I have applied to my business. Do you want to know how your business can make the most of the summer?
1. Evaluate and adopt your marketing plan.
We’re in the hemisphere of the year. (Wow, time flies!) It’s the perfect moment to evaluate what we’ve done so far in terms of marketing. Did it work? At this point, I always create two lists with things that worked and things that didn’t work during the year. This is how I know what I should focus on the rest of the year.
Once I’ve done this analysis, I see how external factors that have an impact on my business change during this season, and try to make the most of it. For example, when I was based in Spain, I noticed that I was living in a very tourist area, which doubled its population in summer. An important number of tourists visiting Spain were coming from the UK and could need interpreting or translation services.
Next step would be: how can I reach these potential clients? Where can I find them and how do they can find me?
2. Evaluate your annual objectives.
Yes, these objectives that you wrote down in a piece of paper at the very beginning of the year and must be lost somewhere in your office. How many of them have you achieved? How many of them you have given up and why?
Think of how these objectives promoted your business development, and what actions you can take to fulfil the rest of them.
3. Launch a special targeted offer.
Most business can think of a way of creating a new offer, product or service that clients may be interested in, especially in summer. You can see an example and my special offer here.
The key here is to analyse how the needs of your clients may vary in summer. What are your clients doing differently in summer and how can you benefit from it?
If you have already planned your summer offer, and have already done your homework, you can focus on a new offer for September or Christmas.
4. Are you going to travel somewhere? Plan ahead!
You could save a lot of money if you plan your business travels beforehand. In summer, you can plan the event you want to attend and plan your travels with time.
5. Improve your workspace.
Now that you’ve been working in your office for half of the year, it’s time to think what can be improved to promote productivity at work. Do you need to invest on hardware/software/pieces of furniture?
Summer can be the best season to boost productivity for the rest of the year.
6. Do your tax return.
This is something that we tend to postpone until the end of the year. However, if you do it now, you can forget about it and focus on your business.
Also, if you do your tax return in summer, you can analyse your finance situation to see what you should focus on.
7. Boost you creativity.
If you aren’t thinking about taking any holiday this summer, at least, take it easy and allow some time off. Read a book and do activities that you enjoy. This will help you boost your creativity and come up with fresh ideas for your business.
What about you? What do you do in summer to boost your business?
